Richard is the Chief Executive Officer of The Russell Family Foundation, where he collaborates with the board to guide the Foundation’s strategic planning, programs and community affairs. Richard joined the organization in 2000 and has worked with three generations of the Russell family. Prior to arriving at the Foundation, Richard served nearly 12 years at Levi Strauss & Co. in San Francisco on community relations, corporate social responsibility and philanthropy. For three of those years, he was executive director of the Levi Strauss Foundation, overseeing global grantmaking in 40 countries. Early in his career, Richard worked in the public and nonprofit sectors in Northern California focused on community health and youth development. He currently serves on the steering committee of Divest-Invest Philanthropy and is a founding board member of Canopy, a Pacific Northwest impact investing collaborative. Richard is a past board member of the Council on Foundations, Philanthropy Northwest and Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy. He holds an English degree from the University of California, Davis.
