Inside Jane’s Fellowship Program: Jessica Griffiths’ Story

Ever wonder what happens when a group of passionate, community-minded people comes together with a shared goal of making Pierce County stronger? That’s exactly what happens in Jane’s Fellowship Program (JFP)! This year-long journey brings together local leaders to learn, grow, and collaborate, meeting twice a month for hands-on experiences, meaningful conversations, and skill-building opportunities.

If you feel inspired to lead, serve, and connect with others who care deeply about our community, this could be the perfect opportunity. With applications now open for Class 13 until September 14, 2025, we sat down with Jessica Griffiths, a Class 12 Fellow, to hear about her experience firsthand.

Meet Jessica

Age: 31

Organization/Role: Director of Scholar Experience, Palmer Scholars

Focus Areas: Social services, workforce development, student empowerment

Experience: Nearly a decade in social services and workforce development

Location: Roy, WA

Q: What inspired you to apply?

A: “The community the program builds within a cohort is probably what attracted me the most!”

Q: What was the experience like during the program?

A: “I’ve made incredible friends and meaningful community connections. I’ve learned so much about grassroots community work, and even more about myself.

As someone with a lot of lived experience, stepping into leadership spaces can often make you question your worth, whether your voice matters, or if you even belong there. But JFP has been so intentional in affirming and showing that every voice matters.

While the program isn’t over yet, I already know that when it does end, JFP will continue to have our backs. It’s clear that we’ll always have a place to return to a space to be heard, to connect, and to continue growing.

I’m truly in awe of this program and everything it stands for.”

Q: What were the most impactful moments or takeaways for you?

A: “One of the most impactful aspects for me has been learning not only from the facilitators, but also from the students and Terrence. Each class doesn’t follow a rigid format. instead, the facilitators welcome new ideas and differing perspectives, creating a safe space for open and respectful dialogue. I really admire how this environment encourages authentic engagement and a willingness to learn from everyone involved, making it a truly collaborative and inclusive experience.”

Q: How has JFP impacted your work or leadership in the community?

A: “I feel confident to take on challenges I wouldn’t have taken on before. I have made amazing community connections that has strengthened my work with my students.”

Q: What’s next for you and your community work?

A: “I currently am enrolled for my Bachelor’s in Organizational Leadership & Change and am in the works to open a non-profit that focuses on Socioemotional learning and youth development!”

Q: What advice would you give someone thinking about applying?

A: “Even though the application seems long and the commitment is one year, please just do it and apply. This program has a backing like no other, and it is truly only beneficial for you. You miss every shot you don’t take!”
