Inside Jane’s Fellowship Program: Phanat Ny’s Story

Ever wonder what happens when a group of passionate, community-minded people comes together with a shared goal of making Pierce County stronger? That’s exactly what happens in Jane’s Fellowship Program (JFP)! This year-long journey brings together local leaders to learn, grow, and collaborate, meeting twice a month for hands-on experiences, meaningful conversations, and skill-building opportunities.

If you feel inspired to lead, serve, and connect with others who care deeply about our community, this could be the perfect opportunity. With applications now open for Class 13 until September 14, 2025, we sat down with Phanat Ny, a Class 12 Fellow, to hear about his experience firsthand.

Q: What inspired you to apply?

A: “Personal and Professional Development. Colleagues and coworkers recommended.”

Q: What was the experience like during the program?

A: “Connecting with community leaders, local business owners, and growing my understanding of people doing amazing work in Pierce County.”

Q: What were the most impactful moments or takeaways for you?

A: “Meeting with other fellows and folks connected to JFP. I did not realize there are so many people in Tacoma that are making significant and lasting impact. The professional and personal development sessions are also helpful in giving me a better understanding of my goals. The sessions help provide me better alignment with my goals and connect me with others outside of my sphere. The Community Bike Ride and visiting Greater Good were my favorite moments so far.”

Q: How has JFP impacted your work or leadership in the community?

A: “It has helped me think broader in the work I do for my career and how many resources there are out there.”

Q: What’s next for you and your community work?

A: “That is one of my goals after my time with the fellowship. I believe I will still be serving my community, but not sure in what capacity yet.”

Q: What advice would you give someone thinking about applying?

A: “Come as you are, be okay with being vulnerable, you don’t need to be an expert.”
